1. Plumbing is Ancient!
The earliest known plumbing systems date back to around 4000-3000 B.C. in ancient Egypt and the Indus Valley. They used clay pipes and copper systems to transport water and waste.

2. The Word ‘Plumbing’
The term “plumbing” comes from the Latin word plumbum, which means lead. Ancient Romans used lead pipes extensively in their plumbing systems.

3. The Mighty Plunger
Did you know the toilet plunger was invented in 1874? It's been a trusty tool for over a century, saving us from countless clogs!

4. Thomas Crapper’s Contribution
While commonly believed to have invented the toilet, Thomas Crapper didn’t actually invent it. However, he was a great promoter of sanitary plumbing and held several plumbing patents, helping to popularize the flushing toilet.

A dripping faucet can waste over 3,000 gallons of water a year. That's enough to take more than 180 showers!

6. The World’s Most Expensive Toilet
In 2001, the International Space Station installed a toilet that cost $19 million! It has special features to function in zero gravity.

9. A Royal Throne
Queen Elizabeth I had one of the first flushing toilets installed in her palace in the 16th century. It was designed by her godson, Sir John Harington, who referred to it as “Ajax.”

10. Pipes of Gold
In 2011, the world's longest-lasting water main, a cast-iron pipe in Philadelphia, celebrated its 180th anniversary. It was laid in 1832 and is still operational today!
